A-1 Auto Tech, Inc. should be your first stop when it’s time for a smog inspection. Per California Law, all vehicles must pass a smog inspection in order to be registered to drive in the state. If a vehicle passes this smog inspection they are ok to register their vehicle. If the vehicle does not pass the smog inspection, then there is an opportunity to repair whatever needs to be replaced or else, retire the vehicle.

Here at A-1 Auto Tech, Inc. we are proud to say that we offer the best smog inspection station in the Mountain View area. Our expert technicians are more than happy to assist you in doing everything possible to allow you to register your vehicle.

What Is A Smog Inspection?

A smog inspection consists of multiple parts to ensure that the vehicle is releasing minimal amounts of toxic emissions. When a vehicle leaves a manufacturer, it has already been tested and passes the emissions standards outlined. Over time components wear out and are damaged, leading to more emissions exiting the vehicle.

At our smog inspections we do three things to ensure that your vehicle passes. We will do an on-board diagnostics test, a visual inspection, and a visual smoke check. If your vehicle passes these three tests, then you are good to go.

On-Board Diagnostics

All vehicles, 1996 and newer are required to have an OBD-2 (On-Board Diagnostics) computer system used to relay data. This allows for all vehicle information to be accessed in a similar way on all manufacturers.

As part of our smog inspection, we will run diagnostics on your vehicle to read real-time data. With this we can see a lot of information including: how various components are performing, temperatures, voltages, pressures, and much more. Using this data we can get an accurate idea of how clean your vehicle is running.

Visual Inspection

We also will perform a visual inspection on the emission-related components. We will make sure that there aren’t any holes or damage on any of the components leading to pre-maturely exiting emissions. If there is damage to any component that affects the emissions or if it is missing entirely, it will need to be replaced in order to pass.

We also will perform a visual smoke check. This means that we will start the vehicle and check if there is visible smoke coming out of the exhaust. By doing these three things, we can ensure that your vehicle is operating as it should and that we are being as easy on the environment as possible.
