The Lincoln Motor Company was founded in August 1917 by Henry Leland and his son Wilfred. The company was originally contracted to make aircraft engines and then later on completely retooled to build automobiles. It was a struggling young company until on February 4, 1922, Lincoln Motor Company was acquired by Ford Motor Company.
